Course Map
Bob Firman Cross Country Course
EAGLE
ISLAND STATE PARK is a championship tested cross country course
that challenges competitors by requiring constant adjustments
to a variety of surfaces including grass, sand, packed dirt,
open field, and asphalt (but only 9 meters of the black stuff).
The course also requires competitors to constantly adjust pace
as they negotiate a number of turns and two trips up and down
Spectator Hill with its 50 meter climb and fast 90 meter descent.
Course elevation 2,724 feet
This
park has been actively used for cross country meets since 1989.
It has been the site of the Bob Firman Invitational, Idaho State Cross Country Championships, WAC Championships,
Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, NCAA DII Championships and the Nike Team National Northwest Championships. |
The Start
START
AREA: An
open field with a starting line that can accommodate 38 teams
using standard six foot boxes. It's a wide open space making
this a team and spectator friendly start area. 230 meter straightaway
to the first corner. Terrain: Flat, mowed hay field.
|
Fox Trail
FOX
TRAIL: This section is where spectators and coaches, watching
from across the water, start to see the first separation in
the pack. Terrain: Flat, small roller, packed and loose
dirt, moderate cornering. Part of loop so this section is run
twice. |
The Beach
THE
BEACH: 200 meters of speed sapping sand. Great access to runners
as they skirt along the waters edge and traverse through the
park. Terrain: Flat, mowed grass, packed and loose
sand, moderate cornering. Part of loop so this section is run
twice. |
Spectator Hill
SPECTATOR
HILL: The course's single most intimidating feature and runners
tackle it twice. 50 meter steep climb then 90 meter thrilling
downhill. Popular viewing location. Terrain: Hill, mowed
grass. Part of loop so this section is run twice. |
Poplar Lane
POPLAR
LANE: Coming off the course's loudest section, runners take
a 180 degree corner to find themselves among the noise quieting
poplar trees. Terrain: Flat, mowed grass, packed dirt, two
sharp turns. Part of loop so this section is run twice. |
The Finish
FINISH:
A 20 meter wide and 175 meter long raceway for the final kick
to the finish. Cheering crowds and loud music bring runners
home. Terrain: Flat, mowed hay, uneven packed surface. |
Awards
